Exercising your young puppy

We all love to walk our new puppies, but a few things to keep in mind. Do NOT walk/place your puppy, on grounds where other dogs may have defecated etc. Droppings host a myriad of microorganisms including the deadly Canine Parvo-Virus. Your puppy has had his 6 week injection, however he is not fully protected from this virus until he has had his 12 week shot at 12 weeks of age. Parvo virus is often fatal, and its certainly not the start you want to for you and your new family member, so take care, no risks, keep your puppy away from any potential for infection.

This is not to say you shouldn’t socialize your Aussie, but you will find visits from family friends and settling into his new home, will keep him happy and open to new experiences.

Once he has had his 12 week needle, we encourage lots of Socialisation. Puppy Pre-school is fantastic as are obedience classes. This will ensure you have a well adjusted, manageable and socially acceptable companion, that is a true example of the Australian Bulldog.

Don’t over exercise your puppy, long walks are nice, but while your puppy is growing you must not expose them to strenuous exercise. I wouldn’t recommend long walks until around 9 months of age. However observe your puppy for signs of tiring and once this occurs give him a break for the day
